NHS cyber attack: Edward Snowden says NSA should have prevented cyber attack | The Independent

Edward Snowden has blamed the National Security Council (NSA), for a cyber attack that hit 74 countries by infiltrating computer systems with ransomware that locked up computers and held user files hostage. The malicious software targeted organisations worldwide, including several hospital trusts across the UK, and is believed to have been leaked from the NSA. The ransomware took advantage of EternalBlue, an exploit used to break into Windows computers, and Snowden said the NHS and other organisations could have “had years – not months” to prepare if the NSA had disclosed vulnerabilities.
