NHS cyber-attack: GPs and hospitals hit by ransomware
At least 40 National Health Service (NHS) organisations in England and Scotland were hit by a cyber attack on 12 May, which disrupted GP and hospital appointments after patient data was rendered inaccessible by a ransomware programme demanding £230 ($297) in payment. The cyber attack, which also affected other countries and organisations, was not believed by Prime Minister Theresa May to have specifically targeted the NHS. There is no evidence that the patient data was compromised, according to NHS Digital. The hackers had yet to be identified.
