NHS cyber attack: Trusts were sent details of ‘security patch’ last month which would have prevented ransomware virus

On 12 May, 48 NHS Trusts worldwide were affected in a cyber attack after failing to install a security patch which had been made available a month earlier. Hospitals across the UK experienced huge issues as a result of the attack, with some services still not resumed due to ongoing IT problems. The health service has been widely criticised for storing information on the outdated Windows XP operating system.
