NHS data breach: trusts shared patient details with Facebook without consent | Health

An investigation by The Observer revealed that NHS trusts shared confidential patient data with Facebook through a hidden tracking tool on their websites, potentially affecting millions of patients. The shared data includes granular details of pages viewed, clicked buttons, and keywords searched. All of it is linked to the person’s IP address. This profound breach of privacy is now being investigated by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Seventeen out of the 20 NHS trusts have removed the tool after the news, and eight have issued apologies to the patients.
