A ransomware attack on the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) could have been avoided if hospitals had followed NHS Digital’s advice on cyber security, it has been claimed. Health trusts were sent details of software patches that could have protected them against last week’s attack, which left nearly 50 trusts without access to their computers. The Windows XP operating system’s security updates have been discontinued by Microsoft, but the systems were still being used to store digital information.
