NHS issues national alert over shortages of blood types urging people to donate

The NHS has issued an “amber” alert due to a shortage of O type blood in England, caused by heightened hospital demand and fewer donations due to many unmet appointments at donation centres. O negative and O positive donors are urged to book appointments at donation centres. This is the second time an alert for blood donation shortage has been issued; the first was in October 2022.
