NHS Lanarkshire reprimanded after patient data shared over Whatsapp

NHS Lanarkshire has been reprimanded by the UK Information Commissioner, after patient data was leaked on WhatsApp between April 2020 and 2022. The data included patients’ personal information, clinical reports, images and videos with a non-staff member also mistakenly added to the group. The watchdog led an inquiry and found that NHS Lanarkshire lacked established policies and processes for dealing with such risks. The health board acknowledged and apologised for the breach.
