NHS Lanarkshire reprimanded after staff shared patient information on WhatsApp during Covid pandemic

NHS Lanarkshire has apologized after its staff shared patients’ personal data on WhatsApp over 500 times during the Covid pandemic. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) issued a reprimand and said NHS Lanarkshire didn’t have appropriate policies or guidance regarding using WhatsApp for sharing sensitive data. The leaked data included names, contact information, images, videos, and clinical details of patients. The ICO has asked NHS Lanarkshire for an update on action taken within six months to prevent future breaches.
