NHS officials warned over patients data exposed in ‘hackers honey pot’

The NHS failed to take appropriate action on warnings about database vulnerabilities before a major cyber attack, and current vulnerabilities may leave further millions of patients’ records at risk. Last year, more than one million patients’ records were compromised in a cyber attack. The NHS and the University of Manchester had been pre-warned of security weaknesses. Current issues include unsecure patient data exposure and a lack of two-factor authentication. Some fear launching a new system before rectifying these issues could invite more cyber attacks.
