NHS patient data compromised in university cyber attack

More than one million National Health Service (NHS) patient files were compromised in a recent ransomware attack on the University of Manchester. The university houses data from 200 hospitals for research purposes, with some patients likely unaware of their inclusion. Initial investigations suggest some 250 gigabytes were accessed. The university warns there is potential for the data, possibly including NHS numbers and partial postcodes, to enter the public domain.
