NHS ransomware attack spreads worldwide
The WannaCry ransomware which started affecting 60 NHS hospitals on 12 May, spread to more than 150 countries, affecting hundreds of thousands of computer systems. A hospital in Oshawa, Canada, was affected but its antivirus software halted the spread there. Patients in UK hospitals faced appointment cancellations because staff were unable to access critical patient records. It appears the NHS was particularly vulnerable because its Windows operating systems were outdated.
