NHS rejects Apple-Google coronavirus app plan

The UK’s contact-tracing app to track Covid-19 will use a different model than the one proposed by Apple and Google, despite privacy and performance concerns. The UK app will keep track of Covid-19 cases using a centralised model, which will allow for adaption and adjustment based on scientific research. In contrast, Apple and Google use a decentralised approach, where the matching process occurs on users’ handsets. This UK approach aligns with France, whilst Switzerland, Estonia, Austria’s Red Cross and Germany opt for a decentralised approach.
