NHS rejects Apple-Google coronavirus app plan
UK’s contact-tracing app uses a different model to that suggested by Apple and Google, despite privacy and performance concerns. NHS said it can make the software work effectively on iPhones without it having to remain active. UK’s app operates centrally, with alerts regarding potential exposure to Covid-19 sent from a central server, whereas Apple and Google’s app works decentrally, with alerts sent from individual handsets. The UK’s centralised approach is shared by France but differs from Germany, Switzerland, Estonia and Austria.
