NHS trust could face homicide charges

siteadmin September 5, 2023

An NHS trust may face a homicide charge following the death of a leukaemia patient who contracted a bacterial infection from his hospital shower. Dr Christopher Elliot, admitted for chemotherapy at Cheltenham General Hospital, died after contracting a pseudomonas bacteria, matching contamination in his shower. Despite his family’s objections, an inquest into his death has been suspended pending an investigation by the Care Quality Commission. It has been suggested that the completion of this investigation may see the NHS Foundation Trust prosecuted for regulatory breaches.
