NHS trust investigated after hospital shower infection contributed to patient’s death

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is being investigated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following the death of a patient who contracted a bacterial infection from a hospital shower. Dr Christopher Elliot was receiving chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia when he was infected by pseudomonas bacteria. The inquest into Dr Elliot’s death has been suspended, against the family’s wishes, until the CQC completes its investigation in 2025.
