NHSX differs with Apple and Google over contact-tracing app

The National Health Service (NHS) will not delay the launch of its Covid-19 contact-tracing application in order to await the release of similar technology by Apple and Google, according to Matthew Gould, the CEO of NHS digital innovation unit NHSX. Speaking to the Science and Technology Committee, Gould said the centralised data collection methodology of the NHS app offered “profound benefits” for tracing the virus, and argued it represented no greater threat to privacy than the tech giants’ decentralised system.
