The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and several other federal agencies in the United States have been targeted by Russian hackers known as “APT29” or “Cozy Bear.” The hackers used network management software updates from SolarWinds to gain access. It is unclear if other organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Blue Cross Blue Shield, were affected. The attack highlights the growing concern for cybersecurity, especially in the healthcare industry, as more business is conducted remotely.
