Norfolk mental health trust breached single sex requirements

The Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust breached England’s NHS regulations regarding single-sex accommodations four times in 2023, three of which occurred in the same month and ward. Regulations require NHS accommodations to be single-sex to promote privacy and dignity. The breaches included urgently admitting three men to a female ward and caring for a female patient in a suite accessed through a male-only section. Two of the trust’s 29 wards remain noncompliant.
