North Korea behind WannaCry cyber-attack that crippled NHS
The 2017 cyberattack on the National Health Service (NHS) was orchestrated by North Korea, according to the UK’s security minister, Ben Wallace. Malware party WannaCry targeted the NHS as part of a worldwide series of attacks earlier this year. UK businesses are also often targeted by criminals using malware, Wallace added. He recommended the creation by Western countries of a doctrine of deterrent to prevent further such occurrences. The attack could have been prevented by the use of basic IT best practices, an investigation by the National Audit Office noted.
