Number of alerts sent by NHS Covid app falls sharply

App alerts for Covid-19 exposure in England and Wales decreased by 43% in the week ending 28 July, following adjustment of the NHS Covid-19 app. Prior to changes, individuals who had been in proximity with an infected person within five days of a positive test result were alerted. Now, the app solely alerts those in contact with a positive case two days before a test is recorded. The effect of these changes will be reflected in next week’s NHS data.
