Number of data breaches and victims U.S. 2022

In 2022, there were 1802 reported data breaches in the US, affecting over 422 million people. Cases were most common in the healthcare, financial services and manufacturing sectors. Over the last few years, the number of healthcare breaches has risen, while incidents in financial services and manufacturing have doubled and tripled, respectively. The largest ever data leaks occurred at adult streaming site CAM4 and tech giant Yahoo, with 11bn and 3bn records exposed, respectively.
