Oklahoma asks Supreme Court to block HHS from stripping federal planning grants over abortion ban

Oklahoma is requesting the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene after the Department of Health and Human Services rescinded federal family-planning grants because state officials would not refer pregnant women to abortion counselling. The funds were withdrawn after the state refused federal requirements to provide neutral information and referral services about abortion. State Attorney General Gentner Drummond argued this action violated the Weldon amendment, protecting against discrimination for refusal to provide abortion-related services.
