ONC inks final health IT certification rule

The Office of the National Coordinator for Healthcare Technology (ONC) has finalized new health IT certification rules aimed at increasing interoperability and transparency. The rules pertain to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Reporting Program provision of the 21st Century Cures Act. They establish conditions for health information technology developers under the ONC’s Health IT Certification Program. Provisions aim to improve data access, exchange and use, while setting timelines for fresh standards adoption. AI transparency requirements in certified health IT are also addressed.
