Hacking incidents caused the majority of healthcare breaches in October, but insider errors affected even more patient records, according to the Protenus Breach Barometer. Of the 37 breaches reported last month, 29% were caused by insiders. Insiders were responsible for breach of 157,000 patient records, a significant increase from previous months. The healthcare sector also struggles with detecting breaches, as it takes an average of 448 days for an organization to discover a breach. Healthcare organizations are urged to conduct routine training to prevent breaches and protect patient privacy.
