OT, Not IoT: The Foundation of Network Security

Operational technology (OT), which manages IT networks, presents additional physical security risks. The solution often suggested is air-gapping networks. However, the trend of cloud-based computing and convergence is removing this option. Giants like General Electric still use OT as it continues to work effectively. However, there is a realization that security has been too deprioritized. Additionally, Programmable logic controllers (PLCs), often used in industrial processes, add to the physical security risk. This has led to a focus on securing both OT and IT networks.
