Outdated IT systems endanger NHS security, warns ex UK cyber chief

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) founding CEO, Professor Ciaran Martin, has warned that the outdated NHS systems are threatening its security and making it more susceptible to cyberattacks. The recent cyberattack on Synnovis, a pathology services organisation holding NHS patient data, highlighted the issue. Professor Martin stressed the importance of updating IT systems, identifying vulnerabilities, and improving basic security measures. He also emphasised the need for robust backup solutions and warning against single points of failure.
