Outdated software leaves NHS ‘vulnerable to cyber attack’

The NHS is at risk from cyber attacks due to its use of outdated software and operating systems, according to Israeli software firm Check Point. The company’s researchers flagged Internet of Things devices, in particular ultrasound machines, as weak points, with the Philips HDI 4000 – which still uses Microsoft 2000 – seen as highly vulnerable. In a test, the Check Point team rated hacking into the software’s vulnerability at three out of 10, gaining control of the hardware and accessing patient scans.
