Overall Malware Down Slightly in the Quarter, as Double-Extortion Attacks Increase — THE Journal

Data security company WatchGuard Technologies reported an overall 8% decrease in malware detections in Q2 2023, as compared to Q1. However, in the same interval, double-extortion ransomware attacks, a form that involves encrypting and transferring data with threats of publication, surged significantly by 72%, with 13 new extortion groups identified. A majority of malware remained hidden behind SSL/TLS encryption utilized by secured sites.
