Overboard: How Tea Party Campaign Assets Were Exposed Online

Data including full names and phone numbers for over half a million individuals, revealing a focused effort to politically mobilise US voters, has been exposed publicly. Misconfiguration of an Amazon S3 bucket belonging to the Tea Party Patriots Citizen Fund, a Republican super PAC, allowed access to the data, which also included strategy documents, call scripts and marketing assets. The fund also crucially helped Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
