Overboard: How Tea Party Campaign Assets Were Exposed Online

Data strategy documents, over half a million names and phone numbers, call scripts and marketing material belonging to Republican super PAC, the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund (TPPCF), were publicly exposed when Amazon cloud storage was misconfigured, said the UpGuard Cyber Risk Team. The files provided insights into the data-driven strategies used by TPPCF for a number of campaigns, including the 2016 presidential election. The mistake has now been rectified but the risk of exposure still exists with cloud storage.
