Pair Lost Over $40,000 in ‘Malware’ Scam, Police Say

Two local residents were conned out of $40,600 by a fraudster who pretended to be a Microsoft employee helping them remove malware, according to state police. The residents reportedly called a phone number shown on the malware message to seek help. Police are still investigating the case.
