Patients face ‘significant harm’ after NHS hacking

Blood transfusion patients at King’s College Hospital risk “significant harm” following a cyberattack by Russia’s Qilin ransomware group on pathology lab Synnovis, which also affected Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Brompton, Harefield and Evelina Children’s hospitals, plus London GP services. The attack disrupted automated blood testing and safety checks, causing elective surgery cancellations or delays. Ciaran Martin, former National Cyber Security Centre CEO, described it as “one of the most unpleasant and impactful cyber incidents in the UK in recent years”.
