‘Perfect storm’ of Russian cyber attack and low supplies sparks Amber Alert for health service

The NHS has issued an Amber Alert due to low blood stocks following the combination of a cyber attack and unfilled donor appointments. The cyber attack by Russian hackers, Qilin, targeted a major lab services provider and caused cancellations of urgent operations. The national supply of O Negative blood, known as the universal blood type, is particularly low with only enough stocks remaining to last 1.6 days.
