Ransomware attacks during the COVID-19 pandemic have had negative effects on patient safety, data, and care availability, according to a report by the Ponemon Institute. The study found that 43% of healthcare delivery organizations surveyed experienced a ransomware attack in the last two years, with 45% reporting disruptions to patient care. Longer patient stays, delays in procedures and tests, and an increase in complications and mortality rates were some of the consequences mentioned. The report also highlighted the importance of third-party risk management and the need for improved cybersecurity measures in healthcare.
