Preventing counterfeiting by adding dye to liquid crystals to create uncrackable coded tags

Nagoya University-led researchers have developed an extremely secure, anti-counterfeiting label using fluorescent cholesteric liquid crystals (FCLCs). Fluorescent dyes mixed with FCLCs produce light patterns which are nearly impossible to replicate without specialized knowledge. The labels appear as solid colours normally, but through a circular polarizer, hidden features and intricate details emerge. Under ultraviolet light, further details become visible. This new approach provides potentially secure protection for high-value goods and sensitive products against forgery.
