Public Voices Often Ignored in States’ Opioid Settlement Money Decisions

People directly affected by the opioid crisis are routinely shut out of state settlement councils that guide decisions about how to spend settlement money, according to a survey by KFF Health News and Spotlight PA. At least 14 opioid councils, including Pennsylvania’s, often block the public from speaking at their meetings, while an additional four typically conduct their meetings in secret.
