QakBot trojan tactics live on in DarkGate, PikaBot malware attacks
A new phishing campaign involving DarkGate and PikaBot strains is utilising attack techniques similar to the dismantled QakBot trojan, according to The Hacker News. Cybercriminals are highjacking email threads to deliver phishing messages with malicious URLs, redirecting to a ZIP archive with a JavaScript dropper. These malicious files could deliver advanced crypto mining software, reconnaissance tools and ransomware. DarkGate reportedly also has sophisticated anti-detection mechanisms.
