Ransomware-as-a-Service Emerges as Top Business Model, OpenText Finds

OpenText’s “Nastiest Malware of 2023” report highlights the continued predominance of ransomware, especially ransomware-as-a-service. The list includes RaaS platform Cl0p, REvil ransomware group Black Cat, Conti descendant Akira, Ryuk’s successor Royal, and third iteration Lockbit 3.0, as key threats. Although ransomware payments have risen, the number of victims willing to pay is at a historic low.
