Kat Jercich August 30, 2021

A ransomware attack on CarePointe ENT in Indiana exposed the personal health information of nearly 50,000 people. The attack encrypted electronic health records containing names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, and medical insurance information. The health center has taken steps to prevent future attacks and has established a call center for patient inquiries. The strategy of ransomware attacks, which have grown more sophisticated, now includes threatening to release stolen data if additional funds are not provided. There is no evidence of specific misuse of the accessed information.
