Ransomware attack on dermatology office breaches more than 13,000 patient records
Reston, Virginia-based Professional Dermatology Care (PDC) has reported that an unauthorized third party gained access to the protected health information and financial data of 13,237 patients. The data was encrypted with ransomware in an attempt to extort money from PDC, and the incident occurred between June 19 and 27. PDC has taken steps to prevent further breaches, and affected patients will be provided with identity protection and support. The breach has been reported to the FBI and the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. There is currently no evidence that the stolen data has been misused.
