Recorded Future observes ‘concerning’ hacktivism shift

Nation-state actors are posing as hacktivist groups to fuel disinformation campaigns, posing a challenge for security teams trying to identify real threats. RSA Conference 2024 speaker, Alexander Leslie, noted that misinformation and disinformation in cybercrime and hacktivist claims, particularly around the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine conflicts, hide actual threats such as ransomware and fraud. Leslie also warned of increasing financially-motivated activities on the dark web, and a growing global reach of hacktivist targets. He urged enterprises to be patient and discerning when assessing cyber threats.
