Recovery from cyber attack that cancelled thousands of hospital appointments to take months, NHS admits
Healthcare providers in the UK will take months to recover from a major ransomware cyber-attack believed to be launched by Russian cybercriminals, according to NHS England. From 3 to 9 June, over 800 operations and 700 appointments were cancelled at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust after provider Synnovis was crippled, leading to the cancellation of non-critical blood tests and the destruction of most of the 8,000 blood samples it had received since the attack.
