Report: Healthcare data breaches spiked 55% in 2020

In 2020, healthcare data breaches increased by 55.1% to 599, with the number affected over 26 million people, costing on average $499 per record, a rise of 16.3% from 2019, according to a report by Bitglass. Furthermore, the time for discovering a breach averaged at 96 days and recovery was around 236 days. The main cause for these breaches was hacking and IT incidents, accounting for 67.3%.
