Rescue From Above: How Drones May Narrow Emergency Response Times

Starting in September, a drone carrying a defibrillator could be the first responder on the scene of a cardiac arrest in Clemmons, North Carolina. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office aims to have the drone reach the patient minutes before human emergency medical technicians can. The experiment, a collaborative effort with local emergency services, Duke University’s Clinical Research Institute, and drone consulting firm Hovecon, hopes to leverage drones in life-saving treatment where every second counts.
