Researchers hack electronic shifters with a few hundred dollars of hardware

Researchers from UC San Diego and Northeastern University have revealed how to hack Shimano wireless gear-shifting systems used by professional cycling teams. With a few hundred dollars worth of hardware, a transmitter can trick a target bike up to 30 feet away into shifting gears or locking the bike into the wrong gear which could cause instability on a climb, or competitors to lose time or even crash.
