Rhode Island AG opens investigation into UnitedHealthCare after data breach

The State of Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General has issued a demand for information to UnitedHealthCare of New England following a security breach at the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority that exposed the data of 22,000 individuals. The breach occurred in August and affected both RIPTA employees and workers from other state agencies. The Attorney General’s Office is seeking information regarding the breach and UnitedHealthCare’s response. Similar actions have been taken by state and federal agencies in response to data breaches in the healthcare industry.
