Russians blamed for massive cyber attack that put details of 40 million voters at risk

Former GCHQ boss Sir David Omand believes Russia was behind a cyber attack on the UK Electoral Commission, saying they are the “first on my list of suspects”. The hack, which went undetected for 14 months, may have affected tens of millions of voters and is believed to have allowed access to the electoral register. There is no evidence at this stage linking the attack to the Kremlin.
