Saudi Vision 2030: Cybersecurity through the lens of patient safety

Healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia have transitioned to remote work settings during the pandemic, leaving them vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. Saudi Arabia’s national strategy for digital transformation, which includes digital health as a core component, has raised awareness of cyber-attacks. Globally, there has been a rise in cyber-attacks on healthcare facilities since the pandemic began. The Middle East can learn from successful approaches in other regions, particularly regarding medical IoT security and clinical risk analysis. The rapid growth of digital maturity without equal investment in security maturity has been a concern. Resources and raising awareness are key in preventing ransomware attacks and educating staff. Cybersecurity in healthcare will evolve to prioritize patient safety and measurable business outcomes.
