Scammers offer cash to phone carrier staff to swap SIM cards
Telephone company workers, including former and current T-Mobile and Verizon employees, are being enticed by cybercriminals to participate in illegal SIM swapping scams. Employees have reported receiving text messages, allegedly from the hackers, offering up to $300 per SIM swap conducted. SIM swapping allows threat actors to override multi-factor authentication and take control of victims’ accounts. It remains unclear how the culprits obtained workers’ mobile numbers.
