Secrets of Highly-Productive Cell Lines

Researchers at universities in New York, Denmark and Ireland have found that Chinese Hamster Ovary cell clones engineered for high drug protein production showed an increase in ribosomal protein production. The teams conducted proteomic and transcriptomic analyses on a parent cell line and two daughter clones. Results displayed an increase in upregulated ribosomal proteins and a change in glycosylation, which the team tied to an increase in protein production depending on energy-intensive pathways.
